Job Description

The Indian Public School (TIPS) – Madurai Campus is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled AS & A Level English Teacher with strong language command, academic insight and the ability to inspire young minds through engaging and inquiry-driven teaching methodologies. The English Teacher will be responsible for teaching English Language and Literature to senior secondary students (Grades 9 to 12), ensuring comprehensive preparation for the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). The teacher must demonstrate exceptional content mastery, classroom management skills and the ability to guide students in academic writing, literary appreciation, critical thinking and exam readiness.\n\nResponsibilities includes but not limited to\n:Plan and deliver engaging, learner-centered lessons in English Language and/or Literature as per Cambridge IGCSE & AS and A Level syllabus\n.Ensure concept clarity, critical analysis, vocabulary development and literary appreciation in students\n.Integrate various genres and texts (prose, poetry, drama) with real-world contexts and cross-curricular links\n.Prepare students effectively for both Paper 1 (Reading), Paper 2 (Writing) and Literature components with appropriate exam techniques\n.Develop well-structured lesson plans, unit plans and annual curriculum overviews aligned with CIE requirements\n.Design a variety of formative and summative assessments with detailed rubrics for evaluation\n.Maintain all academic records, lesson reflections and student progress documentation for internal and external audits\n.Track individual student progress and provide personalized academic support and feedback\n.Support students in building academic writing skills, argumentation, referencing and grammar usage\n.Assist students with university-level English proficiency and entrance assessments (IELTS/SAT Verbal, etc., if required)\n.Conduct periodic assessments aligned with Cambridge objectives and maintain accurate grade records\n.Prepare detailed student progress reports and contribute to parent-teacher meetings\n.Train students in past paper practice and use Cambridge marking schemes effectively\n.Act as a Class Teacher/Mentor to assigned students and ensure emotional, behavioral and academic well-being\n.Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment fostering creativity, collaboration and confidence\n.Communicate regularly with parents on academic and behavioral matters\n.Collaborate with subject coordinators and school leadership in curriculum development, planning meetings and cross-functional projects\n.Participate actively in internal moderation, faculty training and professional development workshops\n.Stay updated with curriculum changes, CIE updates and innovative teaching methodologies\n.Promote the Cambridge learner attributes and 21st-century competencies\n.Involve in school-wide literary, cultural and co-curricular events such as debates, MUNs, poetry slams and creative writing competitions\n.Uphold the school’s values and code of conduct in every aspect of professional work\n\n.\nEssential Skill\ns:Strong command over written and spoken English with impeccable grammar and articulatio\nn.Creative lesson delivery and ability to engage students in critical and reflective thinkin\ng.In-depth knowledge of literary genres, rhetorical devices, literary theory and academic writin\ng.Technological proficiency in using digital tools, LMS platforms and online resources for teaching and assessmen\nt.Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and team collaboratio\nn.Ability to inspire and motivate high-achieving students in a multicultural environmen\n\nt.\nQualifications & Experien\nce:Master’s Degree in English Literature/Language from a recognized universi\nty.Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent teaching qualification is preferab\nle.Minimum 3–5 years of experience teaching English at the senior secondary level, preferably in Cambridge AS & A Level (or) IBDP curricul\num.Familiarity with Cambridge International Examinations, syllabus interpretation, and assessment criteria is essenti\n\nal.
