How you'll demonstrate Ownership
As an AI Engineer, you'll design and build complex AI-powered solutions-agentic systems, user-facing applications, and intelligent workflows-deployed in real customer environments. You'll work closely with customer teams, internal stakeholders, and product engineering to take solutions from idea to production.
This role demands hands-on technical depth, creativity in solution design, and the ability to move fluidly across domains, tools, and stakeholders.
The Impact you bring to Cognite
- Own deployments end-to-end. Build cross-stack solutions using Cognite Data Fusion and agentic frameworks to solve real customer problems
- Work with real-world systems and data. Orchestrate integrations between AI components, Cognite data models, and existing customer systems using scalable engineering practices
- Design agent workflows. Architect and implement multi-agent systems that combine LLMs, tool use, evaluation loops, and reasoning over industrial data
- Execute directly with customers. Collaborate with technical teams on-site to refine use cases and integrate solutions into production environments.
- Build interactive UIs. Create lightweight but powerful interfaces that deliver value for executives and operators alike.
- Evangelize and enable. Translate technical work into compelling narratives that inspire internal and external stakeholders.
- Shape the product. Feed learnings and customer feedback into the product roadmap systematically-ensuring we build the most compelling industrial AI platform in the market.
Required Qualifications
- You've built with AI systems. Hands-on experience with LLMs, embeddings, prompt engineering, and related techniques
- You're a strong full-stack engineer. You can work across the stack and own delivery of functional, user-facing solutions: Frontend: React (or similar) + TypeScript, Backend: Python, Kotlin, or similar for orchestration and API integration
- You have 3+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, AI solution architecture, or similar roles-including direct customer-facing work.
- You've shipped agent-based applications. Experience building LLM-driven or agentic systems (e.g., using LangChain or similar frameworks).
- You default to building. Bias toward rapid iteration, showing rather than telling, and learning by doing.
- You communicate clearly. Strong storytelling skills for both technical and executive audiences.
- You write quality code. Clean, maintainable, and scalable-with solid practices around testing, version control, and code review.
- You work at the frontier. Familiarity with modern AI development workflows, rapid iteration, and agentic engineering tools as part of your daily workflow.
Preferred Experience
- Strong UI/UX instincts for building demos and apps quickly
- Understanding of industrial data types (time series, knowledge graphs)
- Experience with Cognite Data Fusion
- Familiarity with vector databases and RAG architectures
- Cloud-native development experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Exposure to industrial domains-manufacturing, energy, process industries
- Startup or high-velocity product environment experience
- Experience with industrial control systems
- Deep fluency with agentic coding tools and an understanding of what they mean for the future of software engineering-and industrial workflows
