- Lead end-to-end setup and commissioning of a Li-ion battery testing laboratory including infrastructure, equipment selection, and validation
- Define and implement test methods, SOPs, and lab processes aligned with global accreditation and compliance requirements
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for battery systems across cell, module, pack, and containerized energy storage systems (ESS)
- Provide hands-on technical leadership and take ownership of complex testing and certification projects from day one
- Plan and execute battery testing programs in line with global safety and performance standards
- Review product designs, specifications, and documentation to ensure compliance with applicable standards
- Perform failure analysis, safety assessments, and risk evaluations for lithium-ion batteries
- Serve as a technical reviewer for test data, reports, and certification decisions ensuring accuracy and quality
- Ensure adherence to global quality standards, regulatory requirements, and internal processes
- Identify technical gaps, deviations, and corrective actions across projects
- Act as a technical advisor to clients, supporting certification strategy and resolution of technical issues
- Collaborate with global and regional SMEs for technical alignment and capability building
- Support business growth initiatives through technical consultation and customer engagement
- Define project scope, timelines, and deliverables and ensure effective execution
- Oversee lab activities, resource planning, and technician coordination
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, lab quality systems, and operational requirements
- Support the development of UL standards, test methods, and testing equipment
- Represent UL at industry events, including seminars, conferences, and trade shows
- Integrate continuous improvement practices across all technical and operational activities
- Uphold UL's Code of Conduct and ensure compliance with physical and digital security protocols
- Bachelor's / Master's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 8-12+ years of experience in Li-ion battery systems, testing, certification, or manufacturing
- Proven experience in battery lab setup, commissioning, or technical leadership roles
- Strong knowledge of Li-ion battery technologies (cell, module, pack, ESS systems)
- Hands-on experience in battery testing, safety evaluation, and failure analysis
- Experience with standards such as UL 1973, UL 9540, UL 9540A, IEC 62619, IEC 63056, IEC 62133
- Knowledge of IS 16046 (Part 1 & Part 2) is preferred
- Familiarity with broader battery standards and regulatory frameworks (EV, ESS, transport domains) is an advantage
- Experience with battery certification processes and accredited testing environments preferred
