What is the role?
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will lead and contribute to the backend architecture, scalability, and performance of both Book An Artist and Wescover platforms.
You will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining backend systems that power our marketplaces, APIs, integrations, and internal tools. This role requires strong ownership, technical leadership, and hands-on engineering capabilities.

Responsibilities
Backend Leadership & Ownership
* Lead backend development initiatives across Book An Artist and Wescover platforms.
* Own backend architecture decisions, technical improvements, and scalability planning.
* Mentor and collaborate with developers while maintaining engineering best practices.
* Work closely with product, frontend, and operations teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Product & Feature Development
* Design, build, and deploy new backend modules, APIs, and platform features end-to-end.
* Develop scalable REST APIs and backend services using Node.js and Express.js.
* Build systems that support marketplace workflows, mobile applications, and integrations.
* Collaborate in Agile/SCRUM development cycles.
Scalability & Performance
* Ensure backend services remain fast, reliable, and scalable as user growth increases.
* Optimize database queries, API performance, and server-side architecture.
* Improve system reliability, monitoring, and backend efficiency.
Security & Infrastructure
* Build backend systems following strong security principles and standards.
* Manage cloud infrastructure and deployments using AWS services such as EC2, S3, and related services.
* Support DevOps and infrastructure improvements where required.
Database & System Design
* Design and maintain scalable database architectures using MySQL and MongoDB.
* Create database schemas that support business processes and long-term platform growth.
* Troubleshoot production issues, debug backend services, and implement reliable fixes.

Skills & Qualifications
* 4+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
* Strong expertise in Node.js and frameworks such as Express.js.
* Proven experience building REST APIs for web and mobile applications.
* Strong experience with MySQL and MongoDB.
* Strong experience with AWS services including EC2, S3, and cloud infrastructure management.
* Good understanding of backend scalability, security, and system architecture.
* Experience with Git and modern development workflows.
* Basic understanding of DevOps and deployment pipelines.
* Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently and take ownership in a startup environment.
* Comfortable working in Agile/SCRUM teams.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills.
