Essential Job Functions:
Storage Resource Management
- Monitor and manage DASD (Direct Access Storage Devices) and tape environments
- Allocate, format, and configure storage volumes using DFSMS, ISMF, IDCAMS
- Maintain SMS (System Managed Storage) configurations and policies
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Track storage utilization and pool thresholds
- Perform performance tuning for storage subsystems
- Analyze storage usage trends and forecast capacity needs
Backup & Recovery
- Implement and manage backup and restore processes using DFSMShsm, DFSMSrmm, FDR/ABR
- Support disaster recovery planning and execution, including replication and failover strategies
System Upgrades & Maintenance
- Support z/OS and storage management product upgrades and customization
- Apply patches and configuration changes to maintain system integrity
Troubleshooting & Incident Management
- Diagnose and resolve storage-related issues promptly
- Participate in change management and incident response processes
Automation & Process Improvement
- Develop scripts (JCL, REXX) for automating routine storage tasks
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and automation
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure adherence to data retention and security policies
- Maintain detailed documentation of storage configurations and procedures
- Support audits and regulatory compliance
Collaboration
- Work closely with system programmers, application teams, and network engineers
- Participate in CAB (Change Advisory Board) reviews and cross-functional meetings
- Exp: 8-12 years
- Technical: DFSMS, DFSMShsm, ISMF, IDCAMS, Tivoli Storage Manager, JCL, TSO/ISPF.
- Soft Skills: Communication, problem-solving, risk awareness, ability to work under pressure.
- Certifications (Preferred): Client Certified Specialist – Storage Technical Solutions, ITIL Foundation.
