About the role
As aLaureate Software Engineer on the Financials team, you will provide technical leadership for Blackbaud's core financial products, helping shape the future of our accounting,financial management, and compliance capabilities.You'lloperateas a senior technical authority, influencing architecture, quality, and long-term technical direction across teams while partnering closely with Product, Architecture, and Engineering leaders.
This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer who thrives on solving complex financial-domain problems at scale, modernizing legacy systems, and mentoring senior engineers to deliverhighly reliable, secure, and performant SaaS solutions-while intentionallyleveragingAI-assisted development practices across the full software lifecycle.
Whatyou'llbe doing:
Help drive the long-term architectural strategy for Blackbaud's Financial products, balancing scalability, performance, security, and regulatory requirements.
Design and evolve foundational components and services that support accounting, reporting, compliance, and financial workflows.
Provide technical leadership across teams, guiding design decisions and promoting consistent, high-quality engineering practices.
Partner with Product Management to translate complex financial requirements into robust, maintainable technical solutions.
Lead modernization efforts, including legacy system refactoring, cloud-native architecture adoption, and technical debt reduction.
AI-assisted engineering leadership:
Champion the responsible and effective use ofAI coding tools(e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, similar tools) across day-to-day development
Establish expectations for using AI incode reviews, including:
Identifyingdefects, edge cases, and performance issues
Improving readability, consistency, and adherence to architectural standards
Assistingwith risk identification in financial and compliance-sensitive code paths
Promote the use of AI toaccelerate and strengthen testing, including:
Generating and refining unit, integration, and regression tests
Identifyinggaps in test coverage, especially in legacy or high-risk areas
Supporting test modernization as systems are refactored or decomposed
Leverage AI tools duringlegacy modernizationefforts to:
Analyze and understand complex or poorly documented legacy code
Assistwith refactoring, decomposition, and translation to modern patterns
Reduce risk while improving speed and confidence in large-scale changes
Guide teams onsafe, compliant, and maintainableuse of AI tools within enterprise, security, and regulatory constraints
Establish and uphold engineering standards for reliability, observability, testing, and operational excellence
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Security, Compliance, Support) to ensure solutions meet business and regulatory needs
Mentor Principal and Senior Engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement
Stay current on trends in financial systems, SaaS architecture, and developer productivity tooling, and apply them pragmatically within Blackbaud.
Whatwe'llwant you to have:
10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including leadership roles on complex, enterprise-scale systems
Deep experience designing and delivering financial, accounting, or other highly regulated domain software
Proven ability to lead architectural discussions and influence technical direction across multiple teams.
Strongexpertisein.NET Core, C#, and modern backend architecture patterns.
Experience with relational and NoSQL data stores (e.g., SQL Server, Cosmos DB) and RESTful API design.
Proficiencywithmodern web technologies, including Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
Able to work flexible hours as required by business priorities.
Ability to deliver work which meets allminimumrequirements for quality,securityand operability.
