Consultant with BIS compliance expertise
1. Roles & Responsibilities:
(i) Import Shipment Clearance
- Coordinate with CHA (Custom House Agent) and logistics partners for timely clearance of import shipments
- Verify and review import documentation (Invoice, Packing List, AWB/BL, Bill of Entry, etc.)
- Address and resolving customs queries, assessments, and inspections
- Ensure compliance with customs regulations to avoid delays, penalties, or demurrage
(ii) DGFT & Regulatory Approvals
- Handle DGFT-related activities, including obtaining:
o NOC (No Objection Certificate)
o Advance Authorization licenses
- Manage documentation and application submission through DGFT portal
- Liaise with DGFT officials for approvals, clarifications, and follow-ups
(iii) BIS Compliance
- Support in obtaining BIS certification / compliance approvals for imported products
- Ensure alignment with applicable Indian standards and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with authorized labs, consultants, and BIS authorities as required
(iv) Documentation & Compliance Management
- Maintain accurate records of import documentation and approvals
- Ensure compliance with import policies, foreign trade policy, and applicable laws
- Monitor and update documentation as per regulatory changes
(v) Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with internal teams (procurement, logistics, finance, engineering)
- Liaise with external stakeholders including CHAs, freight forwarders, DGFT, BIS, and customs officials
- Provide regular updates on shipment status, approvals, and risks
2. Required skillset (Technical Competency):
- Strong experience in import/export operations and customs clearance in India
- Hands-on knowledge of DGFT processes, including Advance Authorization and NOC
- Familiarity with BIS certification and compliance requirements
- Good understanding of Indian Customs Act, Foreign Trade Policy, and import procedures
- Experience working with CHA, freight forwarders, and government portals (DGFT, ICEGATE, etc.)
- Strong documentation and compliance management skills
3. Candidate Background and competencies
3.1. Education & Experience
- Graduate in Commerce / Supply Chain / Logistics / International Trade or relevant field
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in import-export compliance / customs operations
- Prior experience as a consultant/freelancer is preferred
4. Working relationship
Will work closely with:
- Procurement & Supply Chain Teams
- Finance & Compliance Teams
- External agencies (CHA, DGFT, BIS authorities)
