Job Description
- The AutoCAD Plant 3D Administrator / BIM Lead is responsible for the administration, configuration, customization, and support of AutoCAD Plant 3D environments across engineering projects. The role is accountable for project setup, standards development, database management, automation development, and user support to ensure efficient execution of engineering and design activities.
- The incumbent will lead the implementation and maintenance of Plant 3D project standards, P&ID and 3D model configurations, specifications and catalogs, database administration, drawing generation, and workflow automation. The position also provides technical leadership, troubleshooting support, and coordination with engineering and IT teams to ensure successful project delivery while maintaining compliance with company and client requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain Plant 3D project templates. P & ID Project set up with block creation and properties creation.
- 3D modelling set up with adding properties. Colour coding set up of piping
- Equipment, piping, valves, Instruments, fittings, and specialty items.
- Data Manager properties. Custom properties and classifications
- Modify project setup files (XML/SQLite-based configurations)
- Create, modify, and maintain the catalogues and specifications.
- Pipe specifications, Custom fittings and valves & end types and connection rules
- Troubleshoot missing parts/components in models
- Understanding of Plant 3D database structure. Manage project databases and backups
- Data validation, Audit and cleanup.
- PID dumps and list extractions & Data export/import/BOM
- Isometric & Orthographic Management - Iso styles, Title blocks, Iso templates, BOM formats, Spool drawings & manage orthographic drawing creation and standards
- Provide technical support to Plant 3D users, Resolve - Model errors, P&ID synchronization issues, tagging problems, Annotation issues, Isometric generation errors, Drawing performance issues & Coordinate with IT for network/server-related issues
Skills and Experience:
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 10 to 12 + years' experience in AutoCAD Plant 3D Administration.
- Minimum 8 years' experience in a leadership or BIM Lead role.
- Strong knowledge of Plant 3D configuration, customization, and project administration.
- Experience with Plant 3D API, .NET, Auto LISP, Python scripting, and automation tools.
- Expert Knowledge on SQLite, SQL Server, and Plant 3D database management.
- Expert Knowledge on ASME Piping code, material and dimensions standards
- P&ID concepts, Piping Layout. Piping 3D modelling concepts & equipment modelling.
- Experience in specification, catalogue, and drawing management.
- Knowledge of Navisworks coordination and clash detection workflows.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Works effectively across multidisciplinary teams with minimal supervision.
- Positive attitude with strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and drive continuous improvement.
- Proactive in developing and improving engineering systems and processes.
