Job Description
MISSION We are seeking an agile Senior Control Systems (ELV) Engineer to support our Delivery Team at Colt DCS, an SME on discipline matters. You will report to the Regional Engineering Manager (India) of the Major Builds Delivery Team in Colt DCS. You will play a leading role in the delivery of a multi-disciplinary design, managing external engineering consultants and contractors to meet programme, design and budget for the successful delivery of the project and to achieve cost effective and resilient infrastructures in line with Colt’s Global design standards. The successful candidate must take an agile approach to design, cost and programme & project management always, providing solutions to potential issues and having a direct input to the business performance, ensuring that we, as a team, deliver on time and on budget, every time. OUTCOMES DCS Design team are looking for a multi-disciplined Control Systems Engineer with a strong expertise in ELV systems including Security systems Design who can support the new and existing site and fitout build programme across India. The right candidate will be able to utilize his or her multi-disciplined knowledge base to develop the DCS standardized design. You will reports to the Regional Engineer Manager – India, part of the Delivery Team of the Major Builds in Colt DCS. Lead the creation, documentation, and continuous improvement of global design standards for building automation systems (BAS), EPMS, Security including HVAC, lighting, energy management, and integration protocols. Ensure the control system architecture, hardware selection, software programming, and integration strategies are aligned with the requirements. Prepare the control system designs, specifications, and commissioning plans to ensure compliance with global standards and customer specific requirements. You should manage the Design Programme to ensure on time creation and review of Employers Requirements (ER’s), tender information and design documentation issued for planning and Construction. Responsible for design decisions related to data centre projects including new construction, phased expansion, retrofits and upgrades, mechanical and electrical equipment selections, and standards upgrades globally. Interact with ASMEP design consultants, PMC, various contractors and other internal / external stakeholders to deliver world class data centres. Conducts site audits to validate conformance to policy and standards. You will be required to steer and guide and challenge the external Design Consultants, internal project team and Contractors when required taking a ‘Trust but Verify’ approach, to ensure they deliver a design to meet the requirements of the Design Brief, periodically assessing and evaluating all project related design decisions presented by consultants and contractors with support if required from Senior DCS staff. You will apply a commercial approach in all aspects of the work including design, engineering and construction, working with other engineering functions, Procurement and Delivery to ensure that the procurement of all items is conducted on the most cost-effective basis to drive reduction in costs, maximise our speed to Market, while obtaining the lowest PUE values that meet Colt’s sustainability and environmental targets. The Sr. Controls systems Engineer will be required to analyse, review and comment on design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data submitted for Colt DCS review on BIM 360 Platform and to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications; you will also actively participate to the team workload to ensure that all project documentation internal governance approvals are completed in a detailed and timely fashion. As a Sr. Controls systems Engineer, you will also participate in project Commissioning activities and, when requested, support and advise the Global Head of Building Automation Systems on lessons learnt from live projects regarding MEP infrastructure, Sequence of Operations, Equipment selection, as well as participating when requested to study innovative solutions and appraise modern technologies that are available on the market. This is to ensure that Colt DCS remains the market leader with pioneering data centre design, low PUE, and ‘future proofing’ our Global Reference design (GRD) for any new potential technologies that we may incorporate into the overall design in the near future. You will also work on Sales requests and liaise with customers to develop specific project design requirements, together with senior staff, delivery managers, to deliver first class projects to our Customers. Provide design engineering support to senior staff to define site specific conditions, infrastructure design, costs and liaison with local authorities. Manage the design schedule for assigned projects to ensure on time creation and review of Employers Requirements (ER’s), tender information and design documentation issued for planning and Construction. You will be expected to support and coordinate the construction activities at site regularly. This role requires candidate to work from the office and visit sites on all 5 days a week. WFH policy is not applicable for this position. THE TEAM The Delivery Team, reporting to the VP of Real Estate, is formed by in Regional groups of Project Managers, Design Managers/Engineers, Specialists (namely BMS, Security and Commissioning), Cost Managers and Procurement Managers reporting to the Regional Head of Delivery. The Design Managers will interface daily with their peers of the Delivery team, but also with the Development Team, who is responsible for site acquisition, power and connectivity searches, authorities' approval, preparation of the project’s Design Brief and Business Plan. The Centre of Excellence/Global Engineering Team, reporting to the Global Director of Design & construction, is instead responsible and owner of the GRD and technically responsible for the OFCI equipment procurement and vendors management, ensuring at each stage that the projects are compliant with our standardised design. THE SKILLS / EXPERTISE THEY BRING Extensive knowledge & experience of design, deployment, and commissioning of Data Centres or similar critical environments. Experience in interfacing with both internal and external project stakeholders such as (but not limited to) customers, project managers, design consultants, commissioning agents, cost consultants, equipment suppliers and general contractors. Proven experience in developing and implementing design standards across multiple regions or large-scale portfolios. Deep understanding of control systems (e.g., BACnet, IP, Modbus), PLCs, BMS platforms (e.g., Honeywell and Schneider etc.), and integration with IT networks. Familiarity with cybersecurity principles in BAS design. Deep understanding on Security systems design and implementation. Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation such as Electricity at Work Act and CDM regulations. Proven experience in preparing and submitting technical documentation including scope of services, technical requirements, standards, design guides etc. Commitment to transparency and integrity. Passion and initiative to drive continuous improvement. Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal to technical and non-technical audiences. Commercial awareness to understand the business context of projects and the design of cost-effective solutions. Must have the ability to work accurately under pressure. Must be able to operate in an open management style and structure with an emphasis on team working and within a global matrix. Must be willing to travel on reasonable short notice to visit project’s sites or existing facilities globally. A thorough understanding of site planning and interdependent disciplines, such as civils, structures, architecture & MEP and project delivery processes needed to support our growing fleet of Data Centres, is strongly desired. This person shall be detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and be a self-starter that can excel with little direction. Technical Knowledge: Previous experience of working in a MEP data centre design role within mission critical facilities Proficient knowledge of ELV and Security systems engineering principles Working knowledge of the design and technical principles of MEP including HVAC, PHE, Fire Detection and Suppression systems, HSD, Electrical and BMS/EPMS systems General knowledge of CSA (Civils, Structural, Architectural) disciplines principles Minimum Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a recognised university. Excellent written and Verbal English skills. Excellent written and Verbal skills on regional languages Proven experience of writing feasibility studies/design briefs/policy statements / guidance documents Knowledge of all other engineering aspects of data centres The ability to work in a collaborative way across all engineering disciplines Experienced in Testing and Commissioning Levels and Commissioning Planning of mission critical systems. Direct experience of conducting site reviews Good understanding of Construction Contracts. Experience with project management approaches, tools and phases of the project lifecycle Excellent working knowledge of Design Management processes RIBA. Experience with formal change management processes Should have fair knowledge on Autocad, Revit etc.
