Plant Head - Rolling Mill & SMS

Key Responsibilities

1. End-to-End Plant Operations

• Lead Steel Melting Shop (SMS), Furnace & Rolling Mill operations
• Deliver consistent production exceeding 36,000 MT/month
• Ensure smooth conversion from scrap/sponge iron to finished TMT bars

2. Technical & Process Excellence

• Drive performance of:
• Induction furnaces (uptime, fuel efficiency)
• Rolling mill productivity & yield
• Implement TPM, TQM, Lean Manufacturing, OEE improvements
• Ensure first-time-right quality and process stability

3. Financial & Cost Control (P&L Ownership)

• Own plant-level manufacturing P&L
• Drive reduction in:
• Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)
• Rejections, rework, wastage
• Optimize energy, fuel, and consumables

4. Capacity Expansion & Projects

• Lead debottlenecking initiatives
• Execute expansion plans from 0.40 MTPA to 0.60 MTPA
• Manage capex projects (~₹100–150 Cr) with timelines and ROI focus

5. Production Planning & Delivery

• Align production with sales for OTIF (On-Time In-Full) delivery
• Ensure efficient inventory, dispatch, and logistics coordination

6. Maintenance & Reliability

• Ensure 99%+ uptime of furnace and rolling mill
• Implement preventive & predictive maintenance systems

7. Quality & Compliance

• Maintain BIS and internal quality standards for TMT bars
• Ensure compliance with:
• Factory Act
• Pollution Control norms
• Safety standards

8. Team Leadership

• Lead 200+ on-roll employees + 1000+ contract workforce
• Build strong people culture, accountability, and performance mindset
• Drive training on TPM, TQM, Quality Circles, etc.

9. Stakeholder Management

• Coordinate with:
• Internal teams (Production, Quality, HR, Finance, Logistics)
• External stakeholders (PCB, auditors, contractors, customers)

Candidate Profile

Experience:

• 20+ years in steel/TMT manufacturing
• Minimum 5+ years as Plant Head
• Must have handled 36,000+ tons/month production
• Strong exposure to Rolling Mill + Furnace (SMS) operations

Education:

• BE/B.Tech – Mechanical / Metallurgical (preferred)

Key Skills:

• Strong technical expertise in TMT Rolling Mill, Steel Melting Shop (SMS), and Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) operations and maintenance.
• Should possess comprehensive knowledge of SMS operations, CCM operations, TMT manufacturing processes, and maintenance management of the entire steel plant.
