Principal Software Development Engineer (React/Javascript/Typescript)

Role

We are looking for a visionary Principal Software Development Engineer to join our Frontend Engineering team and lead the design, development, and evolution of world-class web applications. Reporting to the Manager of Software Development Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Zscaler's next-generation user interfaces.

This is a high-impact leadership role where you will balance hands-on architecture with strategic technical direction, mentoring and guiding other engineers to elevate our overall engineering excellence.

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)

• Architect & Deliver: Design and build high-quality ReactJS solutions, specializing in translating complex UI/UX designs into robust, production-ready applications while providing technical mentorship to foster a culture of innovation
• Drive Engineering Excellence: Shape and evolve Zscaler's core design system. Champion frontend best practices, including modularity, semantic code, comprehensive automated testing, and deep performance tuning
• Cross-Functional Integration: Define clean API contracts and seamless integration roadmaps in collaboration with backend teams. Partner with DevOps to optimize CI/CD pipelines and continuously evaluate emerging technologies
• Scale & Refactor: Lead systematic refactoring efforts to ensure long-term scalability, reliability, and maintainability. Drive engineering excellence with a strong focus on accessibility (a11y) and research-driven methodologies

What We're Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)

• Experience: 8+ years of professional software development experience, with 5+ years specializing in large-scale, production-grade ReactJS and Redux applications
• Technical Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in ReactJS development using TypeScript, ES6+, and advanced state management paradigms
• Data Visualizations: Proven experience building highly complex UIs, data-heavy dashboards, and advanced data visualizations (e.g., D3.js)
• Testing Excellence: Deep expertise in developing extensive unit, integration, and E2E testing suites using frameworks such as Jest, Enzyme, or Cypress
• Enterprise Architecture: Proven track record of designing and deploying large-scale enterprise UIs emphasizing high availability, performance, and a seamless global user experience
• AI Tool Integration: Demonstrated curiosity and active exploration of AI tools, with a history of integrating modern technologies to enhance daily workflows and augment problem-solving capabilities

What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

• Advanced experience driving performance optimization (speed, responsiveness) using cutting-edge techniques such as lazy loading, code splitting, and tree shaking to enhance application scalability
• Strong familiarity with backend development principles and practical experience using Node.js (or similar) for API integration, tooling, and debugging
• Ability to architect and implement scalable, modular solutions tailored for multi-tenant enterprise applications, ensuring future-proofed system development
