BESS Product Manager (Utility and Industry)
\nPosition Summary
\nThe Utility & Industrial BESS Product Manager owns the product vision, roadmap, and lifecycle for large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (50 kWh – 10 + MWh). The role spans market analysis, technical definition, product development, containerized system architecture, PCS/EMS integration, safety compliance, and commercial success.
\nYou will work closely with engineering, supply chain, certification bodies, EPC partners, utilities, and large industrial customers to ensure successful deployment of grid-scale and C&I energy storage products.
\nKey Responsibilities
\n- Define product strategy for utility-scale and industrial BESS (AC-coupled, DC-coupled, hybrid ESS). \n
- Build the long-term roadmap for containerized BESS (250 kWh – 10+ MWh) and PCS/inverter platforms. \n
- Analyse global and domestic market trends (LFP cell tech, 2P/3P configuration, liquid cooling, fire safety). \n
- Define competitive differentiation in cost, safety, energy density, lifecycle, and digital integration. \n
- Conduct market sizing, TAM/SAM analysis, and customer segmentation (utilities, IPPs, C&I). \n
- Create PRDs and system specifications for:Battery packs, racks, and container architecturePCS/inverter requirements (20 ft/40 ft)HVAC/thermal managementFire Detection & Suppression (FDS)BMS/EMS integration \n
- Protection schemes, grounding, and grid code compliance \n
- Define performance KPIs: round-trip efficiency, degradation, availability, OPEX. \n
- Work with R&D on cell selection, topology choices, control algorithms, safety design. \n
- Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, thermal, firmware, and EMS teams. \n
- Drive certification requirements (UL9540, UL1741, IEC 62933, UL1973, IEEE 1547, BIS and other relevant standards as applicable). \n
- Support supply chain in selecting cells, racks, PCS, thermal systems, and auxiliaries. \n
- Enable manufacturability, configuration standardization, and cost optimization. \n
- Lead product introduction, field trials, and pilot deployments. \n
- Develop technical datasheets, manuals, and product documentation. \n
- Train internal teams (sales, service, EPC partners). \n
- Track product field performance using data analytics and customer feedback. \n
- Drive cost-down initiatives (cell sourcing, cooling redesign, cabinet/container optimization). \n
- Manage component EOL and product upgrades. \n
- Lead next-gen design initiatives (liquid cooling upgrades, modular PCS, sodium-ion readiness, etc.). \n
- Good Customer connect in utilities, IPPs, C&I, microgrid segments. \n
- Work closely with developer, consultant, EPC, and support design proposal, Product evaluation and technical clarification. \n
- Experience with containerized ESS (1 MWh – 5 MWh blocks). \n
- Knowledge of LFP, NMC, and emerging chemistries (sodium-ion, semi-solid). \n
- Exposure to battery Energy Storage Application: peak shaving, arbitrage, frequency regulation, black start. \n
- Hands-on with commissioning or lab testing of PCS/BESS systems. \n
- Experience in tender preparation, technical proposal, System Level Preliminary Design \n
- BE/ME in Electrical/Electronics, Power Electronics. \n
- 5-15 Years of Experience in relevant industry
