\nAs a Rock Mechanics Specialist in the Geotechnical discipline, you will provide skilled technical guidance and leadership in rock mechanics for complex infrastructure projects. Your role will involve conducting advanced analyses, developing innovative solutions, and ensuring effective implementation.
\nFurthermore, on a day-to-day basis you will:
\n- Work within the domain of rock mechanics within the discipline. \n
- Act as subject matter expert collaborating with COWI offices outside India. \n
- Implement best practices (i.e. professional standards, technical delivery approach, knowledge sharing). \n
- Develop innovative solutions on complex matters. \n
- Mentor and develop less experienced staff \n
- Perform engineering analysis and design of rock tunnels, slopes, caverns and shafts in mixed ground conditions and rock (initial support and final lining) constructed by various construction methods such as drill and blast, NATM, NMT or TBM. \n
- Apply rock mechanics skills and experience to evaluate potential failure modes and develop ground support schemes \n
- Classify and characterize ground conditions for different tunnelling and underground excavation methods based on geotechnical data. \n
- Lead rock mechanics design tasks for delivery of medium to large infrastructure, hydroelectric power or transit metro tunnel projects. \n
- Develop geological models, designs and drawings. \n
- Communicate design work through calculations and drawing sketches indicating support types, geometry, construction sequencing and instrumentation. \n
- Communicate design work progress to internal and external stakeholders. \n
- Interpret and organize design results into technical memoranda, geotechnical design reports and presentations. \n
- Provide inputs for bids and tenders. \n
- Master’s degree in Rock Mechanics or Geology \n
- 8+ years of project design experience in carrying out analysis and design of rock tunnels, caverns, slopes, shafts and underground structures \n
- Sound knowledge of rock mechanics fundamentals including various design approaches \n
- Understanding of tunnelling and underground construction methods such as drill and blast, NATM, NMT or TBM \n
- Basic working knowledge of typical BIM and AutoCAD \n
- Experience with design software such as RS2/3, SWEDGE, UNWEDGE, DIPS, UDEC, FLAC/FLAC3D, Plaxis 2D/3D, Sofistik, and/or others \n
- Knowledge of working with international standards (EURO, Canadian, NFF, BS and API, etc.) \n
- Experience within Scandinavian, UK or North America markets would be a plus \n
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate seamlessly across geographical and cultural boundaries \n
- Proficient time-management and organisation skills, ability to multi-task, and ability to communicate and collaborate with multiple stakeholders
