\nAs a Staff Software Engineer , you will lead the design and evolution of Western Union’s API platform, driving simplification, scalability, and innovation across business lines. You’ll collaborate with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to define architectural standards, guide implementation, and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
\nYou will be working with a team of engineers with a broad range of responsibilities including all aspects of software engineering like requirements, understanding and validation, solution design detailed design, development, testing and software configuration management. Build products, systems, and services that are optimized, well organized and maintainable, and have high impact on our end users.
\nRole Responsibilities

Design, develop and maintain architecture for scalable, reliable, and secure applications and services.

Lead architecture reviews, proof-of-concepts, and design discussions across teams.
\n - \n
Define and enforce coding standards, architectural guidelines, and best practices.
\n - \n
Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and technologies based on evolving business needs.
\n - \n
Lead a cross-functional team of developers, providing direction, support, and mentorship.
\n - \n
Collaborate with Product Managers, QA, DevOps, and UX to ensure smooth delivery.
\n - \n
Drive engineering excellence through agile practices, code reviews, and continuous improvement.
\n - \n
Own end-to-end technical delivery of features and systems, from planning through deployment.
\n - \n
Break down high-level requirements into technical solutions and delegate effectively.
\n - \n
Identify and address technical debt and system inefficiencies proactively.
\n - \n
Ensure timely delivery of milestones while maintaining high quality.
\n - \n
10+ years of experience in software architecture, development, and engineering.
\n - \n
Strong knowledge of modern architecture patterns (microservices, event-driven, cloud-native).
\n - \n
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP ) and CI/CD tools.
\n - \n
Proven experience leading engineering teams with strong interpersonal and people management skills.
\n - \n
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
\n - \n
Experience with distributed systems, API design, and data modeling.
\n - \n
Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps culture .
\n - \n
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders.
\n - \n
Core Java, Spring and Spring Boot
\n - \n
In-depth knowledge of microservices architecture principles and design patterns .
\n - \n
Experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker, and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
\n - \n
Experience with building RESTful APIs and event-driven systems.
\n - \n
Experience with CI/CD tools and practices (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
\n - \n
Strong understanding of database systems, both SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB).
\n - \n
Experience with message brokers and streaming platforms like Apache Kafka.
\n - \n
API design and integration include REST, Soap, XML/JSON and Web API.
\n - \n
Experience in architecting applications in Java and related technologies
\n - \n
Experience with object-relational mapping (ORM) and model-view-controller (MVC)
\n - \n
Experience in developing Windows Linux/Unix platforms/Cloud based platforms
\n - \n
Web and App server experience (Tomcat, Apache, WebLogic etc.).
\n - \n
Experience in BASH/SSH scripting.
\n - \n
Experience with using latest engineering tools (eg. Jenkins, JIRA, Confluence, Git/Perforce).
