Senior Software Engineer - Python Backend & Data Pipelines

About the Role

SonicWall is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to own the Python side of our Content Filtering Service platform. This covers two components: a web application (Django + FastAPI + Vue.js) that lets users look up and submit URL category rating change requests, and a collection of backend scripts and data pipelines that keep our rating databases synchronized, ingest threat intelligence feeds, and automate customer communications. These two components share common libraries and interact with the same databases, so you will work across both - the web product and the operational pipelines - rather than owning just one.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the Django/DRF and FastAPI backends, including authentication, request validation, and API versioning.
• Own the PostgreSQL schema and query layer for the URL rating change workflow.
• Maintain and extend the suite of data pipeline scripts: threat feed ingestion, database synchronization, customer submission processing, and scheduled exports.
• Improve the reliability of scheduled pipelines, including error handling, alerting, and operational monitoring.
• Maintain and extend the Vue.js frontend, implementing new UI features and internationalisation changes as needed.
• Drive test coverage across both the web application and the data pipelines.
• Own the Docker-based development environment and RPM-based production deployment process.
• Maintain clear documentation so the platform can be understood and operated by the broader team.
• Collaborate with both local team and asynchronously with the US-based team.

Requirements

• Strong Python development skills, including production experience with Django (including Django REST Framework) and/or FastAPI.
• Solid PostgreSQL knowledge: schema design, query optimization, connection management.
• Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and scheduled jobs in a production environment - not just web apps.
• Working knowledge of Vue.js (or another modern frontend framework) sufficient to implement and debug UI features independently.
• Familiarity with Pydantic, REST API design, and API versioning strategies.
• Experience with Linux server environments, systemd-managed services, and cron scheduling.
• Comfortable with Docker for development and shell-based deployment scripting.
• Good written English for remote, asynchronous collaboration.

Nice to have:

• Experience with SQL Server / pyodbc in addition to PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with binary UDP protocol clients in Python.
• Background in threat intelligence data pipelines, web content filtering, or security data operations.
• Experience with RabbitMQ or similar message queues from a Python client perspective.

Education & Experience

• At least 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent experience preferred. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
