A Guidewire SBT Rating Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining rating logic and pricing configurations using Guidewire's rating engine (primarily in PolicyCenter). The role focuses on creating and configuring rating algorithms that determine insurance premiums.
Rating Development
- Develop and implement rating algorithms using Guidewire Rating Engine.
- Configure rate books, rate tables, and worksheets.
- Build and maintain rating routines using Gosu and XML configuration.
- Customize pricing workflows within PolicyCenter.
- Work with Guidewire SBT framework for system enhancements.
- Extend base application components with minimal impact on core upgrades.
- Ensure best practices for extensibility and upgrade-safe customizations.
- Configure:
- Product model (lines of business, coverages, policies)
- Rating structures
- Integrate with external systems (e.g., underwriting, third-party rating services).
- Write and execute unit tests and system test cases for rating logic.
- Validate premium calculations and ensure compliance with business rules.
- Debug pricing discrepancies and production issues.

Technical Skills
- Strong experience with Guidewire PolicyCenter
- Expertise in:
- Guidewire Rating Engine (Gosu-based development)
- Gosu programming language
- XML & PCF configurations
- Knowledge of:
- Web services (SOAP/REST)
- SQL and database concepts
- Experience with rate books, rating worksheets, and tables
- Strong understanding of Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance
- Knowledge of:
- Policy lifecycle
- Underwriting rules
- Premium calculations
- Guidewire Studio
- Version control tools (Git, SVN)
- CI/CD pipelines (optional but preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
- Typically 3-8+ years of experience in Guidewire development
- Guidewire certifications (e.g., PolicyCenter or Rating Specialist) are a plus
- Experience with Guidewire Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Knowledge of integration patterns
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Performance optimization for rating calculations
