Overview
We are seeking a Staff Engineer to join our Product Development team. This is a great opportunity for someone who specializes in building large-scale, cloud-based platforms to access timely, accurate and relevant data. Key Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on software design and development using Spring Boot, Python, Node.js, JavaScript, and Java/J2EE technologies.
- Develop microservices, RESTful services, asynchronous APIs, and web applications for multiple products and clients.
- Apply understanding of security schemes such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, Basic Authentication, and APIM security configuration.
- Implement complex architectural solutions using AWS design principles, best practices, and industry standards.
- Develop highly distributed and scalable software applications.
- Maintain code quality through test coverage and test cases.
- Communicate and explain technical and architectural decisions to product, development, and delivery teams.
- Drive continual improvement in quality and efficiency, including defect prevention, root-cause analysis, and improvements to technology and processes.
- Comprehend detailed project specifications and adapt to various technologies while working on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Participate in reviews of software engineers' code to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Lead and mentor junior members of the team.
- Research and implement performance tuning and enhancements to existing and newly developed systems to improve infrastructure performance.
- Participate in rotational production system monitoring, with monitoring hours aligned to the US Pacific Time Zone.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in key engineering roles such as technical lead, software engineer, or other lead/engineering positions.
- Strong experience with Java/Spring Boot microservices and cloud-based development, preferably AWS.
- Exposure to AI tools or technologies such as Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, LLMs, ML, MCP, or similar.
- Experience designing and developing API proxies in vendor products such as Apigee and AWS API Gateway.
- Deep experience with AWS cloud services, including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Security Groups, ELB, Elastic Cache, Beanstalk, Redshift, Lambda, API Gateway, Kafka, SQS, SNS, SES, and CloudFormation.
- 3+ years of experience using Amazon Web Services to architect and deploy reliable, cost-effective, scalable, and secure cloud-native solutions.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Good understanding of distributed software applications, including system integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience monitoring the health of distributed systems and developing strategies for error detection and recovery.
- Systems integration experience, including API design and development, real-time systems, and microservices.
- Passion for learning new frameworks, building processes and procedures from scratch, and training analysts on best practices.
- Familiarity with CI/CD processes, testing frameworks, and practices such as CodeCommit, CodeDeploy, CodePipeline, and CLI.
- Experience integrating with asynchronous messaging, logging, or queueing technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
- Strong knowledge of the software development process and project management methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
