Specialist Systems Engineer - VMWARE
Role Summary
The Lead VMware Platform Specialist is responsible for technical ownership and stability of enterprise VMware platforms. This role combines deep hands-on expertise, platform-level oversight, and technical leadership, including automation adoption and mentoring of L1/L2 engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Own and lead enterprise VMware vSphere (7.x/8.x) platform operations
Provide technical leadership for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF 9.x) lifecycle activities
Act as technical escalation point for complex platform issues
Lead and govern vCenter Server, ESXi hosts, HA, DRS, clustering, and resource management
Drive performance optimization and capacity planning
Oversee VM lifecycle activities including provisioning, migrations, snapshots, and upgrades
Lead storage operations (VMFS, NFS, RDM, vMotion, Storage vMotion)
Provide technical leadership for Nutanix HCI platforms
Drive automation using Python and PowerCLI to improve operational efficiency
Support DevOps-aligned infrastructure and infrastructure automation practices
Use VMware AI/AIOps features (e.g., Aria Operations insights) for monitoring and optimization
Ensure platform security, access control, and compliance readiness
Required Experience & Skills
12 years of experience in VMware enterprise environments
Strong expertise in VMware vSphere 7.x/8.x and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF 9.x)
Hands-on experience with vCenter, ESXi, HA, and DRS
Hands-on experience with Nutanix HCI platforms
Advanced troubleshooting using ESXi/ESX command line
Strong automation skills using Python and PowerCLI
Experience supporting DevOps-oriented infrastructure platforms
Exposure to VMware AI/AIOps capabilities
Strong problem-solving and technical leadership skills

VMware Aria Operations / Automation
Ansible or Terraform (basic to intermediate)
Kubernetes infrastructure exposure (preferred)

VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP)
