Senior Software Engineer I - Mongo/Aiven KTLO

This person will be responsible for guiding the development of a mixed-skill engineering team, facilitating communications, providing clarity of vision and priority, and empowering the team to create creative solutions for our DigitalOcean customers.

What You'll Do:

• Develop the control plane for a cloud DBaaS platform
• Build highly scalable distributed systems at scale
• Build and operate specific database engine controls to provision, destroy, scale, and backup clusters
• Build world class telemetry and logging to provide proactive signals and alerts to both engineering teams and customers if something isn't right
• Orchestrate complex workflows for various database engines
• Automate and create playbooks for operations related to owning and running database engines that may include minor or major upgrades, security patching, and other maintenance events
• Stay current with trends in cloud-native infrastructure, Kubernetes operators, control plane patterns, and the DBaaS competitive landscape to inform long-term technical strategy.

What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering
• Experience delivering complex cloud-scale distributed systems, particularly in data and OLTP databases.
• Golang and gRPC experience
• Strong knowledge of K8s and deployment pipelines including Github Actions
• Preferred: Experience with orchestration engines such as Temporal
• Preferred: Operation experience with MongoDB
• Systems thinking.
• Strong opinions, weakly held.
