We are seeking an Associate - Underground Structures (Mining & Civil) to provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership across underground structures, tunnelling, and mining infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will lead major project delivery, develop client relationships, drive business growth, oversee technical excellence, and contribute to the development of the Global Capability Centre (GCC). The role requires a recognised industry leader with strong commercial acumen, people leadership capability, and a proven track record of delivering complex multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent internationally recognised professional qualification.
  • Member of a relevant professional engineering institution.
  • Typically 18-25+ years of experience in tunnelling, underground structures, mining infrastructure, or multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading major projects, programmes, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proven track record in business development, client relationship management, and project delivery.

Mandatory Skills

  • Recognised technical leader in underground structures, tunnelling, mining infrastructure, or major civil infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience acting as Project Director, Design Director, Technical Director, or equivalent leadership role.
  • Extensive experience delivering complex multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Strong project, programme, commercial, contract, and financial management capability.
  • Demonstrated success in client relationship management and business growth.
  • Experience leading and developing multidisciplinary teams across multiple geographic locations.
  • Strong governance, quality management, and operational leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to develop service offerings, technical capability, and business growth strategies.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to lead change, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong people leadership capability including mentoring, succession planning, workforce planning, and professional development.
  • Ability to align technical delivery with business objectives while maintaining operational excellence and client satisfaction.

BGV:

  • Employment with WSP India is subject to the successful completion of a background verification ("BGV") check conducted by a third-party agency appointed by WSP India.

  • Provide strategic leadership for underground structures and tunnelling services across mining and civil infrastructure projects.
  • Act as Project Director, Design Director, Technical Director, or Discipline Lead on major projects and programmes.
  • Lead the delivery of multidisciplinary underground infrastructure projects from feasibility through detailed design and construction support.
  • Establish technical standards, design governance frameworks, and quality assurance processes.
  • Provide technical oversight for structural analysis and design considering:
    • Ground loading and ground-structure interaction
    • Hydrostatic and groundwater pressures
    • Construction methodologies and temporary works loading
    • Operational, durability, resilience, and whole-life performance requirements
    • Project risk, constructability, and asset lifecycle considerations
  • Lead client engagement activities and maintain strategic client relationships.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within mining, tunnelling, and underground infrastructure sectors.
  • Lead bid strategies, fee proposals, technical solutions, and project pursuits.
  • Provide leadership in project, programme, commercial, contract, and risk management.
  • Drive innovation, digital engineering, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop capability growth plans, succession strategies, and technical excellence programmes.
  • Lead performance management, coaching, mentoring, and professional development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with UK and global leadership teams to align business objectives and delivery strategies.
  • Represent WSP at industry forums, professional institutions, and client engagements.
