Engineer III
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and accountable Senior ODL (Operational Data Layer) Full Stack Software Engineer to provide technical leadership for the visualization and data delivery experiences that sit on top of our platform.
While colleagues on the team focus on ingesting Avro-based events and processing them through Flink and Databricks, you will lead the user-facing layer - architecting React/TypeScript applications, shaping REST service integrations, and defining caching and performance strategies so teams can explore and act on data quickly and reliably at scale.
You will mentor engineers, drive frontend and full stack best practices, and partner with BI and product stakeholders to deliver data-driven solutions. This is a key role for a leader who is passionate about scalable web systems, great user experience, and fostering a culture of curiosity and accountability.
What we are doing
The ODL (Operational Data Layer) team builds the platform that turns product activity into trusted, reusable data.
We partner with engineering teams across the company to help them emit Avro-based business events in a consistent, schema-governed way. Those events flow through our stream and batch data platform - processed with Apache Flink for real-time pipelines and Databricks for scalable ELT and lakehouse workloads - before landing in datasets and services that downstream teams can rely on.
The full stack engineering track owns the visualization and data delivery layer: web applications, REST API integrations, and the caching and performance patterns that make curated data feel fast and dependable for analytics, BI, and product teams. Together with our pipeline and platform engineers, we provide a clear path from event emission to insight.
As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you will help shape the architecture of this experience layer - from frontend platform design and API integration patterns through to caching, testing, and delivery at scale - and mentor others on building durable, performant, user-facing data products.
What our stack is
Your work leads at the application layer of a broader data platform:
- Frontend: React, TypeScript, modern component and state-management patterns
- Services & APIs: REST integrations with Kotlin /JavaSpring Boot backends
- Caching & performance: HTTP caching, application-level caching, cache invalidation strategies, and API response optimization
- Data exposure: SQL-backed APIs, dashboard and visualization components, BI-oriented user experiences
- Quality & delivery: automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, code review
- Platform context: Avro-based events, Apache Flink, Databricks (collaboration with pipeline engineers)
- Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK (and related tooling)
- Cloud & runtime: AWS / GCP / Azure, Docker, Kubernetes
You should bring deep strength in React/TypeScript and full stack architecture, with the breadth to lead design decisions across frontend performance, REST integration, and caching strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture of data visualization and platform UIs built with React and TypeScript.
- Architect integration patterns and high-performance consumption of REST services backed by Kotlin/JavaSpringBoot.
- Own caching and performance strategy across the browser, API, and service layers.
- Define testing standards and mentor engineers on frontend, integration, and end-to-end test strategy.
- Partner with Data Science, BI, and product teams to translate business needs into scalable user-facing data products.
- Drive the vision and technical roadmap for BI dashboarding and data exploration platforms.
- Mentor and guide other engineers, promoting a team-focused and data-driven culture.
- Take accountability for the overall health, performance, and scalability of our user-facing data applications.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of technical leadership in full stack roles.
- Expert-level programming skills in TypeScript and deep production experience with React.
- Deep experience designing and building scalable REST service integrations and data-oriented APIs.
- Strong understanding of caching principles and performance architecture for web applications.
- Proven success in designing, building, and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines for full stack applications.
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading complex technical projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience with Kotlin / JavaSpringBoot service development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building data platforms, dashboard frameworks, or analytics products from the ground up.
- Deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and designing cloud-native frontend delivery.
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes (K8s) and Docker in a production environment.
- Experience implementing modern observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
- Advanced SQL skills and experience working with data-heavy user experiences.
- Experience with charting or visualization libraries (e.g., D3, Recharts, or similar) at platform scale.
