Subject Matter Expert - Reinforcement & Detailing (BIM)

About the Company/Role

We are building AI systems capable of understanding and generating real-world reinforcement detailing across global standards. We are looking for an experienced Structural BIM & Reinforcement Detailing Expert who can bridge structural engineering knowledge with intelligent automation.

This is not a conventional detailing role. You will work directly with software and AI teams to teach an AI agent how experienced detailers think, model, and validate reinforcement detailing decisions across UK, European, and Australian standards.

If you have deep expertise in RC detailing, understand constructability, and can explain why reinforcement decisions are made — this role is built for you.

Key Responsibilities

1. Reinforcement Modelling (3D BIM)

• Develop fully reinforced 3D RC models from IFC files and engineering briefs.
• Handle practical detailing challenges including:
  • Openings & edge conditions
  • U-bars & trimmer bars
  • Lap zones & anchorage
  • Hooks & starter bars
  • Congestion zones & intersections
  • Mesh vs loose bar decisions
  • Precast & in-situ detailing variations
• Work using tools such as:
  • Revit
  • Tekla Structures
  • Allplan
  • CADs RC

2. Reinforcement Detailing (2D Output)

• Produce:
  • Sections
  • Callouts
  • Dimensioned detailing views
  • Tags & annotations
  • Bar Bending Schedules (BBS)
• Ensure all drawings are:
  • Buildable
  • Code-compliant
  • Consistent with the 3D model
• Apply international detailing conventions including:
  • BS 8666
  • Eurocode 2
  • AS 3600
  • DIN / SIA standards

3. AI Training & Technical Review

• Review AI-generated reinforcement outputs element-by-element.
• Identify incorrect, impractical, or non-buildable detailing.
• Convert detailing logic into structured engineering rules for AI implementation.
• Distinguish:
  • Hard engineering rules
  • Site-based judgement calls
  • Constructability trade-offs
• Collaborate closely with software engineers and AI specialists.

Required Skills & Experience

Must Have

• 5+ years of hands-on reinforcement detailing experience.
• Strong experience across:
  • Walls
  • Slabs
  • Columns
  • Beams
  • Foundations
  • Connection zones
• Expertise in 3D rebar modelling using at least one BIM platform:
  • Revit
  • Tekla
  • Allplan
  • CADs RC
• Strong understanding of:
  • Cover & spacing
  • Lap & anchorage
  • Hooks & bend radius
  • Edge reinforcement
  • Opening reinforcement
  • Starter bars
  • Constructability
• Ability to interpret structural design reports and translate engineering intent into reinforcement layouts.
• Strong communication skills to explain detailing decisions to cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to:
  • UK / European / Australian detailing standards
  • Precast and in-situ construction
  • IFC workflows
  • BIM automation
  • AI-assisted workflows
• Experience in model checking and technical review.
• Ability to identify inconsistencies in drawings and design inputs.
