Overview

This role holder will be responsible for completing and checking a wide range of actuarial work for UK Defined Benefit retirement clients. He or she will work with the team to deliver actuarial calculations and reports for a portfolio of clients to meet their requirements.


How you'll make an impact

Responsibilities

  • Acting as an actuarial and consulting assistant for portfolio of clients
  • Handling the preparation of actuarial valuations and cost estimates
  • Undertaking and supervising accounting disclosures (FRS17, IAS19 and USGAAP)
  • Coordinating data collection including editing and testing data received from clients
  • Undertaking and checking all aspects of actuarial work associated with pension schemes
  • Preparing letters, reports and other client materials
  • Assisting in developing administrative procedures and forms used by clients
  • Checking day to day individual calculations as requested
  • Participating in Buck internal projects, handling special projects or assignments as needed
  • Assisting scheme consultants with the consultancy aspects of pension schemes
  • Establishing strong working relationships with clients
  • Preparing for and attending client meetings, as required
  • Providing leadership, feedback and training to actuarial analysts
  • Building up consulting knowledge on actuarial and non-actuarial aspects of pension plans
  • On qualification, to progress towards holding responsibility for a portfolio of clients and acting as a client manager for a number of these
  • Peer reviewing and ensuring own work is peer reviewed as appropriate
  • Maintaining accurate time recording and charging to clients where applicable
  • Staying abreast of latest industry developments and requirements of applicable regulatory bodies
  • Adhering to Corporate Policies and Procedures (CCPs)
  • Reporting any suspected breaches to management/compliance department upon discovery

About you

Qualifications

  • Experience within the UK defined benefit pensions actuarial environment
  • Experience of work in one or more of the following areas:
  • Pension scheme funding valuations
  • Pension accounting disclosures (FRS17, IAS19 and USGAAP)
  • Individual actuarial calculations for pension scheme members (e.g. transfer values)
  • Actuarial factors
  • Pension data analysis
  • Guaranteed Minimum Pension (GMP) equalisation
  • Strong communication skills (but not necessarily any experience communicating with clients)
  • Able to prioritise, organise and carry out tasks within deadlines
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Proactive and a team player
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer literate
  • Good numerical/mathematics-based degree
  • Good progress through the actuarial exams
