Job Summary:
The Senior Piping Engineer directs and executes all aspects of Piping Engineering activities within the department. Ensures all Piping Engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established objectives. Supports the Piping Engineering team across our global offices, including Canada, Australia, USA, and India.
- Subject matter expert for piping design, specification, and installation.
- Perform piping wall thickness calculations and verify pipe schedules in accordance with ASME B31.3 / applicable design codes considering pressure, temperature, and corrosion allowance.
- Develop and maintain piping material specifications (PMS) and piping class specifications for project requirements.
- Prepare material requisitions (MR) and technical specifications for piping components including valves.
- Assist in execution of project deliverables including piping specifications, line designation tables, isometric drawings, and specialty item specifications.
- Conduct technical bid evaluation and vendor drawing review for piping materials and specialty items.
- Oversee, train, and mentor junior and intermediate piping engineers.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of Piping Engineering deliverables.
- Ensure effective use of global workshare to meet corporate requirements.
- Assist in leading and execution of project deliverables including but not limited to piping specifications, line designation tables, isometric and general arrangement drawings, material requisitions, and specialty item specifications.
- Work closely with Piping Design Drafting department to ensure efficient delivery of optimized piping arrangements.
- Contribute to model reviews at 30%, 60%, and 90% design stages, working closely with Piping Design and Drafting department to ensure readily identifiable optimizations are incorporated prior to client review.
- Support, maintenance of Piping Engineering procedures and standards.
- Liaise with Stress, Mechanical, Supply Chain and Project Management.
- Develop, manage, and implement project specifications.
- Support staff performance reviews and training.
- Demonstrate commitment to the Health and Safety program.
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced knowledge of piping materials, metallurgy, and material selection for corrosive and elevated temperature service conditions.
- Experience in piping material specifications, line class development, and pipe schedule selection.
- Expertise in piping wall thickness calculations and corrosion allowance determination.
- Experience reviewing vendor technical documentation and performing technical bid evaluations.
- Demonstrable experience in mentorship and training.
- Proven ability to execute efficiently on small to medium sized projects.
- Experience in contributing to multi-discipline teams, including global workshare.
- Proven experience in design & compliance with ASME B31.3, B31.1, B31.4 and B31.8, API, ASTM, NACE.
- Working knowledge of welding procedures, procedure qualification and NDE methodology.
- Experience with pressure piping applications to ABSA, TSASK, is considered an asset.
- Design experience working with boiler and steam piping systems is considered an asset.
- Ability to effectively resolve interdisciplinary issues, or concerns that arise within a team environment.
- Broad exposure to natural gas, conventional oil and heavy oil facility design and construction.
- Familiarity with materials requisitions and supply chain management systems and procedures.
- Knowledge of Canadian Piping Design Codes is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Pipeline Engineering is considered an asset.
Education and Qualifications:
- Possess a Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering degree.
- Minimum 10+ year's oil and gas experience with minimum 5 years recent EPCM experience, focused on mechanical and piping engineering.
- Experience in CAD and 3D piping modelling is considered an asset.
