DB Exadata Architect

1) Required Skills
• Deep expertise with Oracle Exadata architecture (database servers, storage cells, smart scans, cell offload, flash/PMem, RDMA over Infiniband/RoCE).
• Strong hands on with Oracle 19c/21c features: RAC, ASM, ACFS, Partitioning, ACO, In Memory, SQL Plan Management, Resource Manager, AWR/ASH.
• Proven performance tuning across SQL, instance, and cell/storage layers; bottleneck isolation using AWR/ASH/SQL Monitor/ExaCEL/CellCLI.
• Design of HA/DR: RAC for HA, Data Guard/Active Data Guard for DR, Far Sync, Snapshot Standby, and switchover/failover runbooks.
• Mastery of migration methods: ZDM, RMAN duplicate, Transportable Tablespaces/XTTS, GoldenGate, Data Pump, and cutover strategies (brownfield/greenfield).
• Solid security and compliance background: TDE, network encryption, least privilege, auditing, separation of duties, and exachk remediation.
• Familiarity with TIBCO ESB integration touchpoints, application connection pooling, and workload patterns for Java/.NET services.
• Comfortable with Linux (RHEL 7/8/9) administration for DB nodes; awareness of Windows client/driver considerations (2016–2025).
• Automation skills using Ansible, Terraform (for surrounding infra), scripting (Bash/Python), and OEM/CLI for repeatable provisioning.
• Excellent communication and leadership to guide DB, app, and platform teams through design decisions, trade offs, and risk mitigation.
2) Responsibilities and Duties
• Lead the target state Exadata architecture for the data center exit, defining capacity models, node counts, storage tiers, and growth headroom.
• Produce migration blueprints and runbooks using ZDM/RMAN/XTTS/GoldenGate, with downtime SLAs, fallback strategies, and dress rehearsals.
• Design and validate HA/DR with RAC + Data Guard/ADG, RPO/RTO alignment, switchover drills, and DR observability/health checks.
• Optimize performance with smart scan enablement, proper segment/storage design, compression choices (HCC), and SQL plan baselining.
• Establish security baselines: TDE keys/rotation, network encryption, privileged access, exachk/dbsat remediation, and audit/monitoring policies.
• Collaborate with cloud/network teams on VPC design, routing, Direct Connect/VPN, TGW, and throughput/latency requirements for app tiers and TIBCO flows.
• Implement operational excellence: backup/restore with RMAN, snapshot strategies, cloning, patching cadence (GI/DB), and Exadata image/firmware management.
• Drive observability: OEM/Cloud monitoring, AWR/ASH baselines, alert thresholds, capacity forecasting, and SLO error budgets.
• Conduct workload modeling (OLTP vs. DW/mixed), connection management, and connection pool/right sizing for Java/.NET middleware tiers.
• Mentor DBAs and engineers; run design reviews, pre go live readiness checks, and post migration performance stabilization/hypercare.
3) Cloud Experience Needed
• Proven experience executing on prem → cloud database migrations to Exadata in an AWS connected environment (e.g., Exadata Cloud Service/Cloud@Customer with AWS connectivity).
• Hands on with AWS constructs supporting databases: EC2 based app tiers, VPC/subnetting, Security Groups/NACLs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect/VPN, PrivateLink patterns.
• Integration of Exadata with Java/.NET application stacks, TIBCO ESB, and secure connectivity (mTLS, JDBC/ODP, wallet based auth, connection pooling).
• Experience engineering Data Guard across regions/sites, DR posture validation, and runbook automation for failover/switchover.
• Familiarity with automation/IaC for surrounding infra (Terraform/Ansible), plus CI/CD hooks for DB code deployments (Data Pump, Liquibase/Flyway where applicable).
• Operationalizing monitoring & logging in cloud contexts: OEM/CloudWatch/SIEM feeds, performance baselining, and capacity metrics.
• Security alignment in cloud: KMS/HSM key management integration, secret management, network encryption, and audit trail centralization.
• Experience coordinating cutovers at scale: multiple schemas/tenants, phased migrations, read only windows, and parallel run strategies.
• Knowledge of licensing and cost models for Exadata and cloud networking/egress; optimization tactics for storage, backups, and DR footprint.
