Humane World for Animals has developed criteria to guide financial institutions toward investments and financing of higher welfare systems. While Humane World for Animals is engaging with the multi-national and regional, public and private financial sector, building a country-specific engagement strategy requires an in-depth understanding as well as system mapping. Humane World is commissioning an in depth study and mapping of the Indian financial sector, both public and private, key roles, entities of influence, and identification of key opportunities to successfully advocate for highest impact for animals.\n\nProject Scope\nThe three deliverables and scope of the study include:\n\n1.

Landscape analysis of Indian financial sector and relevant public policies:\n\n· General overview of the financial sector in India, as related to the financing and investment of animal production and general agriculture activities (public and private).\n· Compilation of central government legislation and policies applicable to the Indian financial system, regarding rural credit and the financing of animal production projects.\n· Compilation of state legislation and policies applicable to the Indian financial system, regarding rural credit and the financing of animal production projects.\nIf needed, restrict to the following states of interest:\no Andhra Pradesh\no Telangana\no Tamil Nadu\no Karnataka\no Kerala\no Gujarat\no Bihar\no Assam\no West Bengal\no Punjab\n· Compilation of central and state subsidies, tax incentives or similar benefits available for animal production in India, and to whom they are available.\n· Compilation of import and export regulations on animal products and potential benefits available to animal production projects.\n· Description of the procedures and entities (including key roles) involved in creating a subsidy, tax incentive or similar benefit structure, central or state, of similar nature in India.\n· Upcoming changes to guiding documents, taxonomies, legislation, efforts, and programs that affect climate finance, sustainable finance, and animal agriculture.\n\n2. Mapping key players and levers of influence to propose farm animal welfare taxonomy, policies or programs:\n· Compilation of the financial institutions involved in financing animal production in India.\n· Description of the procedures related to specific rural credit lines, criteria for selection and approval of projects, as well as entities (including key roles or individuals, if applicable) involved in determining these procedures.\n· Key levers of influence for financial policy\nKey levers of influence for climate and agriculture policy\nKey levers of influence for animal welfare through livelihoods policies.\nKey levers of influence for animal welfare through one health policies.\n\n3. Recommendations of opportunities to shift investments away from large scale commercial animal agriculture or animal production systems that fail to implement a high level of animal welfare:\n· Based on the findings of this project, what are the strongest opportunities to include farmed animal welfare in the financial sector agenda in a meaningful and lasting way?\n· How can we meaningfully converge the impact of animal agriculture on human health and livelihoods and propose solutions that are holistic, meaningful and align with the development agenda of the country?\n· What opportunities and financial support are available for producers to finance new systems and practices related to improved farm animal welfare?\n· Who are the key partners Humane World needs to engage in order to accomplish those strategies?\n\nThe end product of this study will be a comprehensive report answering the topics listed above.\n\nTimelines and Deliverables\nThe proposed timeline for this project, until the delivery of said report, is 6 months.\n\nEvaluation Criteria\nWe are looking for an experienced individual who will have the following capacities: ·\n· PhD in Applied Economics\n· Established research in Agricultural policy, agricultural economy, climate or finance policies ·\n· Ability to meet timelines and enable the workforce in an agile manner.
