Position Overview:

Shapiro & Associates Attorneys At Law, PLLC is seeking an experienced, highly autonomous Associate Attorney to join our practice. This role focuses almost exclusively on business and commercial litigation.

Please note: This practice is not a general practice and does not handle personal injury, insurance defense, family law, or general torts.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in an independent, remote work environment. You will be responsible for spearheading legal research, drafting pleadings, managing electronic filings, and occasionally representing clients in remote judicial hearings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Legal Research & Strategy: Conduct deep-dive legal research using Westlaw and LexisNexis to build robust strategies for complex commercial disputes.
• Drafting & Pleadings: Draft, review, and refine pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests/responses, and commercial agreements with meticulous attention to detail.
• Docket & Case Management: Manage the filing and uploading of legal documents electronically via the New York State Courts Electronic Filing (NYSCEF) system.
• Remote Representation: Represent clients confidently in remote court appearances, and depositions as needed.
• Client & Case Ownership: Work closely with Mr. Shapiro to move cases forward independently from intake through resolution.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Bar Admission: Active license to practice law and in good standing with the New York State Bar (Admission to the New Jersey Bar is a strong plus).
• Experience: 5+ years of dedicated experience in corporate law, commercial transactions, or business litigation.
• Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency with Westlaw, LexisNexis, and NYSCEF. Comfort with remote collaboration tools (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, secure cloud storage) is required.
• Skills: Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and legal writing skills. The ability to distill complex corporate issues into persuasive written arguments is paramount.
• Work Style: Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage tight court deadlines, and maintain a high level of self-discipline in a remote setting.
